This page is designed to help you get started with the fundamentals of Scrum. On it you will find the resources to discover what Scrum is, why it is used, how it works. In a nutshell, Scrum is a simple organizational framework based on three ideas:

    • divide and conquer the complex into the simple
      • break complicated work into simple pieces
      • break organizations into small teams
      • break time into short cycles
    • inspect and adapt your process and your plan
      • revisit plans and assumptions regularly
      • optimize the value delivered by the product
      • continuously improve your process
    • create transparency because people make better decisions with all the information

The interactive infographic below shows the Scrum framework from beginning to end. Scroll over each part of the process for more information and resources. You can download a copy of it here.

How Scrum Works

Why is Scrum used? It was first implemented by software teams in the 1990s to produce better software more quickly that made customers happier (turns out it actually creates happier teams, too!). Today, 73% of agile software projects report using Scrum to accelerate time to market. But Scrum isn’t unique to the software world — it is making waves in other industries from education, to journalism, to physical manufacturing because no matter what teams are doing, Scrum enables them do it:

      • Better – Scrum puts the customer at the center of design and development, which ensures scrum-made products deliver what the customer needs.
      • Faster – Scrum teams inspect and adapt their process in order to continuously improve so that they can produce more in less time.
      • Happier – Scrum empowers working teams to make decisions and harness their talents, leading to greater employee satisfaction.
